Long Mead Local Wildlife Site: a mosaic of habitats
Long Mead, the River Thames and Horseshoe Island from the air
Long Mead is a small site 10ha of which is a 1000 year old floodplain hay meadow. The other habitats and their ecotones that surround it - oxbow lake, stream, reed bed, heritage orchard and woodland, make it highly diverse botanically, which provides habitat for a wide range of wildlife including a number of threatened species.
