Description
Its long cylindrical flower heads look like foxes' tails. It is one of the first grass species to flower in the year.
How to identify: Leaves are smooth and hairless, the stem is erect and hard at the shaft, the flowerhead is a long cylinder at the top of a stalk which has short silky hairs called anthers, giving the flower a bushy look.
