Description
Horsetails are known as living fossils as they are the only living genus in Equisetaceae, a family of vascular plants which reproduce by spores rather than seeds. The plants have a rush-like appearance.
How to identify: Stems are 1-3mm wide, green and slightly rough with 4 to 8 vertical ridges, with irregular whorls, the sheaths are loose, grey green with black and white erect edges.
How to propagate: Propagate by cutting away portions of the rhizomatous root clumps and replant them in the Spring.
