How to identify: Has creeping rhizomes and shoots in tufts. Stems are tall and sharply three angled. Leaves are narrow (less than 10 mm) and glaucous, drooping at tips. Inflorescence of 2 to 3 male spikelets above 3 to 4 female, close set. Male spikelets 1 to 4 cm, bluntish purple-brown. Female 2 to 5 cm, cylindrical, erect and all short stalked.
