A perennial plant that grows vigorously, colonising quickly and over-shadowing smaller, more delicate flowers and grasses. The dense one sided panicle is said to resemble the shape of a cocks foot. People used to chew cock's foot for its sweet flavour.
How to identify: slim stems with stalked, rounded, purplish flower heads that are loosely clustered. Leaves are rough and have sharp edges
