Join us for your Corporate Volunteering Day

Working towards the Thames Valley Wildflower Meadow Restoration Project (TVWMRP)
Our planet's ecosystems are under pressure, but local, collective action has the power to turn the tide. When you volunteer with Long Mead Foundation on TVWMRP you are helping to save the UK’s most biodiverse, and one of its rarest, habitats from extinction. Only 4 square miles of our floodplain meadows survive an area the size of Heathrow Airport.

These species-rich floodplain meadows are on the verge of extinction so your support is vital. Whether you're hand propagating wildflowers, planting native hedgerows or surveying local flora & fauna you'll be actively participating in the restoration and protection of an exceptionally rare natural habitat,  creating immediate, tangible benefits for the environment and everyone who shares it.

What’s involved?
We believe everyone has something unique to offer, and no prior conservation experience is necessary to get involved. Whether you want to get your hands dirty in the meadow or help with our seasonal projects.   Corporate volunteering days—often called "Wild Workdays" —are structured team-building events where businesses swap their meeting rooms for the great outdoors to complete hands-on environmental projects.
These days are designed to allow companies to fulfil their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, hit sustainability targets, and give back to local ecosystems while boosting team morale.

Here is a typical day and why companies participate:

The tasks depend entirely on the season and the urgent needs of the project, but they usually include:
  • Habitat Creation: Planting native hedges, sowing wildflower seeds, or potting plants.
  • Land & Meadow Management: Clearing invasive plant species to protect meadows.
  • Infrastructure Repairs: Building or repairing fences, clearing boardwalks, and creating accessible pathways.
  • Biodiversity Surveys: Assisting local experts in tracking wildlife, from mapping butterfly populations to surveying water quality in local brooks.

How do we support?
We have two levels to our volunteering opportunities:
  1. SAPLING: (maximum 2-3 people) volunteer with us for an interactive support day and give us your time and muscle power.  Wednesdays only - alongside our regular community volunteers.
  2. OAK:  (10 - 25 participants) make a donation (minimum £50pp) + volunteer your time with a bespoke volunteering day for your team.  These are run on Fridays (*)
*Because these days require dedicated staff time to manage risk, provide tool training, and guarantee safety, we require a fee per participant (or lump sum donation) to cover costs and directly fund ongoing conservation work.  Please contact us for more details.

How are the Days Structured?
  • Group Sizes: Tailored for teams of 10 to 25 people.
  • The Schedule: Usually running from about 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. It kicks off with safety briefings and tool training, followed by a productive block of conservation work, a break for a picnic lunch, and a wrap-up session (often featuring a guided walk)
  • Equipment: We provide all the tools, but ask that volunteers bring appropriate footwear and attire.

Why Sign Up?
  • Tangible CSR & Social Value: It provides measurable social and environmental impact data that companies can feature in their annual sustainability reports.
  • Impact:  Help save one of the UK's rarest and the world's most biodiverse habitats. Support Oxfordshire's only community-driven, landscape-scale nature recovery projects.
  • Unique Team Bonding: Getting messy and working toward a shared, physical goal builds trust and camaraderie in a way a typical office happy hour can't.
  • Employee Well-Being: Spending a full day away from screens, breathing fresh air, and doing physical work in nature is a massive boost for mental health and stress relief.
