Branched Bur-reed is an easily uprooted plant and so prefers slower waters.
How to identify: The flower stalk is branched. The leaves are usually erect but occasionally they lie floating on the surface of the water. Individual flower clusters are un stalked, those at the top of the spike being male whereas the larger bur-like flowers lower down are female.
